How I Built an Adventurous Life

Welcome to my little corner of the internet

I am excited to share my passion for living an adventurous lifestyle with you. This space is your go-to for travel tips, adventure stories, and global exploration insights, all drawn from my experiences visiting over 50 countries in the past decade.

The moment I felt my passion for adventure travel ignite was during my first deployment in the Royal Australian Navy. At just 20 years old, I was part of an operation based in Southeast Asia. Depending on the country and port we visited, we’d sometimes get shore leave. Malaysia—Langkawi, to be exact, is a place that is embedded in my memory forever. You could describe it like your first love—“you’ll never forget.”

This small island had a very peaceful and calm energy, with Bob Marley playing at most beach bars, setting the scene for a slow-paced, chill vibe. I loved it! What I didn’t realise then was that I was already becoming hooked on international travel. The question that would repeat in my mind was: “How can I be paid to travel and see the world?”

It’s amazing how this one island had such a profound impact on my life path.

A couple of deployments later, I was fortunate enough to receive a once in a lifetime opportunity: deployment on HMAS Anzac for the 100-year commemoration of ANZAC Day (25th April 2015). This meant we were cruising the world for six months!

Still, the question lingered: “How can I be paid to travel the world?” The voice only got louder. After returning from deployment, I recalled a conversation I had with a flight attendant on an Emirates flight to Dubai. She said, “I love my job—you get paid to travel the world and stay in beautiful hotels.”

That was it !

That was the answer.

I had to become a flight attendant. When I shared this idea, I got a lot of negative feedback: “It’s so hard to get a job with Emirates,” “Your career in the Navy is too good to pass up,” and so on. But if you know me, you know that I trust my gut and ignore pessimistic talk. So, I applied for Emirates. Long story short, everything happened fast—before I knew it, I was living in Dubai and getting paid to travel the world.

Fast forward to today, and I’m proud to say that I’ve intentionally designed my life around adventure and travel. I’ve embraced experiences I once thought were unimaginable, and now I’m here to share everything I’ve learned. Hopefully, it’ll inspire a spontaneous move to the other side of the world! (Just kidding… baby steps.) Building adventure resilience is key—and I’ll cover that in future posts.

My “why” for creating this space is simple: I want to share the liberating feeling of adventure, the thrill of travel, and the unexpected opportunities that arise when you live a life embracing the unknown.

Sending energetic, adventurous vibes your way!
